Serving New Jersey for over 75 years

A Rich History and a Promising Future...

Ole Hansen emigrated from Norway in 1909 to work
as a dock builder on the Hudson River in New York. In 1925, Ole joined the F.W. Schwiers Jr. Company where
he supervised the construction of many bridges between the mainland and island communities in Southern New Jersey. In 1929, he began his own business and was subsequently joined by his sons Haubert and Walter until his death in 1952.

During the depths of the Depression in 1933, Ole Hansen, with great optimism, determination and self-confidence, established a construction firm that ultimately developed an enviable reputation in a wide variety of environments.

Ole and his sons built a company capable of accomplishing the most difficult tasks in marine, pipeline and heavy highway construction. Over the years, the Company remained competitive with the largest contractors in the country yet stayed small enough to be personally managed by the Hansen family.

After nearly 60 years of success in the construction industry, the Company transformed its focus to real estate development under the leadership of Ole's grandson, Roger Hansen. Ole Hansen & Sons, Inc. (OHS) actively responded to business opportunities, and, as the Company progressed, its nucleus of motivated managers carried out the demands of a growing company while maintaining the same values and structure that it was originally built upon.

Today, Ole Hansen & Sons, Inc. has expanded and diversified. It now functions as the parent organization of several businesses including Atlantic City Transportation Center, Downbeach Express, Atlantic City Boatyard, OHS Sand & Gravel Company, Hidden Creek Golf Club, and The Hansen Foundation & Serenity House.

Ole Hansen & Sons, Inc. focuses primarily on recreational entertainment (including a private golf course), transportation, and the development of raw land & renewable energy in accordance with the needs of the local marketplace. The Company currently owns, leases, and manages twelve properties in the South Jersey area. As a progressive organization, Roger Hansen and his talented management team are constantly exploring new development opportunities that will benefit the Company and the community alike.

“Giving back to the community” is a core value of the Hansen organization whose commitment has been recognized over and over again throughout the years. In 1999,
Ole Hansen & Sons received the prestigious "Bailey Award" presented by The Press of Atlantic City to a company exemplifying volunteerism and corporate citizenship. Roger Hansen and his management team serve on the Boards of several charitable and community organizations. Jennifer Hansen, Roger's daughter, continues the tradition through her work with The Hansen Foundation of which the main focus is recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism. Their example continues to inspire Company employees who join together to carry on the tradition.
